At the EA/B&YVRT meetings at Growforward, Chelfham Mill on Saturday 16th May 2026, a contest was held to guess the weight of a replica L&BR concrete fence post, built recently by the Snapper Navvies. The winner was Quentin McGuinness, who took home the £10 cash prize. Quentin’s guess of 58 Kg was closest to the actual weight of 57.3 Kg (a little over 9 stone, or 126.327 lbs!). Honourable mention also goes to Jo Rosen, who was second-closest, with 56 Kg.
Now that EA has obtained planning consent for the rebuild of the long-lost original building, the first phase of construction awaits the final ground plan and services design. The YVT and Exmoor Associates provided material to support the Barnstaple Railway Exhibition 16-20 December 2023. The Exhibition was put on by Barnstaple Town Council and covered all the lines radiating from Barnstaple, including “ours”.
